Cosplayer Melfina > Costume of Asuka Langley Sohryu from Neon Genesis Evangelion
About this Costume
- Construction Details:
- The fabric was a very lucky find - Red Tag Clearance fabric, and there was JUST ENOUGH fabric left (like, 2 yards). I was afraid it wouldn't be enough, but bought it anyway because I was dead-set on using iridescent taffeta for this. Luckily it ended up being just enough, crisis averted.
Top was mish-mashed from a pattern I had for a princess seamed bodice while the skirt is just an easy-peasy circle skirt drafted by myself. Ruffles were then added to the circle skirt.
Gloves were purchased and modified by gathering and adding the white ruffles to the tops. Shoes were painted with burgundy floral spray paint. Thigh-high ruffles are detachable garters that I made, since directly sewing the ruffles to the stockings didn't look right.
- Personal Thoughts:
- I've loved this dress ever since I first saw the illustration/figure come out for it. I didn't always LOVE Asuka (in truth, I used to be a hardcore Rei fan), but she really grew on me over the years.
- Styling Notes
- Cut and styled bangs, trimmed the length overall by about 5 inches, and pinned up the Tsun-Tsun twintails.
