Cosplayer Lin-Z > Costume of Layla Hamilton from Kaleido Star
About this Costume
- Construction Details:
- The white body suit was based off of one I owned from a dance costume, and is made out of very cheap, only slightly stretchy material. The gold pattern is made with swimsuit material, and was topstitched on with a slight zig-zag to ensure that it would stretch with the body suit.
The jacket is again, very cheap fabric - it's costume satin. The white accent is bias tape and there is a gold cord topstitched around the edges. The fur is a boa stitched to the collar of the jacket, but there is another piece that is separate and just tucks in at the close of the jacket. The sleeves are gathered with elastic. The jewel was hand sewn against the fur. The jacket closes by two white cords in the front that wrap around my back and tie in the front.
The train of the jacket is chiffon with small sequins glued on (it was sold like that) and all I did was hem it and sew it to the bottom of the jacket.
The sleeve puffs are the same satin as the jacket and gathered with elastic, and the gold pattern is crepe back satin attached with heat n' bond and then topstitched. The trim on the sleeves is the same as on the jacket collar.
The headpiece is two ostrich feathers hot glued together and then tied for extra security with leftover white cord. The barrette is covered with craft foam, and the green marbles were hot glued to the craft foam.
There's also a gold necklace made out of gold thread, a plastic jewel, and a jewelry clasp.
- Personal Thoughts:
- I've wanted to cosplay Kaleido Star for a long time, actually! It was one of the first anime that I knew about, and I loved that it's all about performing and stage life (even though it's astonishingly inaccurate, it's still fun).
