Cosplayer Lilacwire > Costume of Fai D. Flowright / Yuui from Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle
About this Costume
- Construction Details:
- Heat n' Bond x 1 million! There's over a mile of thread in this satin-stitched monstrosity. I can't speak highly enough of ball-point needles for this kind of project.
Each individual piece had to be Heat n' Bonded and then satin-stitched individually, making lining up the various pieces difficult at times. What also made this difficult is that because Fai is a CLAMP character, his proportions are not at all similar to a human woman, so I had to do quite a bit of work on the designs to make them look like the art book.
Because the only photo of Fai in this costume is the one from the art book, I made up a lot of the back designs from scratch, using the front designs as a guide for shape and "feel." It was a lot of fun to have the freedom to make them up as I went along, and a lot less time-consuming than trying to mimic the front.
I made Fai's white leg-coverings into spats because I aim for comfort in my cosplay footwear at all times. Another Tsubasa artbook pic has him wearing spats with a different outfit, so I chose them as a guide for something he would wear on a frequent basis.
- Personal Thoughts:
- After Teca asked me to cosplay this costume, I was pretty stumped. I'd never before attempted something like this, with all the lighter-color designs on a dark base that were so incredibly intricate.
We discussed it a bit and decided that we needed to take a trip to LA's fabric district. Being from Colorado, I assure you that it is a religious experience.
- Styling Notes
- Used a hair dryer to heat the bangs to the side, as I didn't want to trim the wig.
- Wig Review
- Love this wig. Definitely big enough for my huuuuuge head and comfy to wear all day. Pretty fiber!
