About this Costume
- Construction Details:
The costume's gone through a lot of changes but the few things that always stayed were the thigh-high polka dot stockings, black boots and a black vest (later I added the simple blouse underneath). The first version used a skirt while later versions used black shorts.
The first two versions of the costume had a large cape I made with simple black cotton fabric and red felt polka dots glued on. After that cheaply-made cape started to fall apart though I decided to use the red polka-dotted fabric I used as a scarf as the new, shorter cape (with a long white scarf to double as both a drawstring to the cape and ascot-like thing to the ensemble).
The first two versions also had Charlotte's red and blue ear-wing things in the form of a headband (made of felt with a soft metal wire inside to maintain its shape). That started to fall apart too though so I opted for a peaked cap I had for another cosplay and used red and blue feathers for the ear-wings.
Initially I also carried around a large plush of Charlotte's pink form (bought by a friend from Taobao) but now I just have the smaller plushie-scarf merchandise of Charlotte tied around my waist. It frees up the hands!
- Personal Thoughts:
- Ooh boy do I have a special spot in my heart for this one! Charlotte was one of my favorite witches from the series but I decided to cosplay a gijinka of her black worm-like form rather than her cute pink form after seeing some fantastic fanart of it.
Since AX 2011 I've been adding and improving this cosplay little by little with each con and hopefully I'll continue to do so for a couple more cons to come until no one remembers what Madoka Magica is anymore, haha...
