About this Costume
- Construction Details:
- Check out my in-progress photo's!
I tackled Chun-li by pushing myself to do it with the best of my current skills and learned new techniques I didn't settle and re-did pieces several times.
I had put this costume off for years, because while her design is simple, it really does need patience, and techniques that I wasn't familiar enough with like satin-stitching.
I spent about 2-3 weeks alone on the mock-up. Making several ones before ending up with my final pattern. The dress is fully-lined, the sleeves are stuffed with tulle for poofy-ness. Belt is lined and has a separating zipper!
All gold designs are heat n' bonded down then satin-stitched down around all the edges- the crescent shapes are tricky you can see in my progress photo's my collar i did it 3 times before I got ok at it!
My bracers were made by my boyfriend, who did it out of styrofoam, covered in paperclay- sanded down. they are SUPER heavy haha so i do not recommend this route for them, but they look sweet! I could seriously cause some damage with these so I have to be careful when wearing them.
I had used my real hair for this dyed it a much darker brown and grew out my bangs and had them cut at the con for this too! The bun covers are made out of the same brocade as my belt, just a circle that has the edges foded over twice and then stitched down for a clean edge.
- Personal Thoughts:
- AHHHHH CHUN LI MY DREAM COSTUME!!!! This was a costume long time coming for me. I like many girls have idolized Chun-li. When i was a young girl playing SF in the arcades Chun-li was my girl.
I waited a long time to do this costume till i had thie skills, confidence to pull off the costume cleanly and nicely. Thankfully i waited cause i had two friends join me in this!
