Cosplayer SaChan > Costume of Homura Akemi from Madoka Magica
About this Costume
- Construction Details:
- This costume was deceptively difficult. The trickiest parts were the collars. Ooooh those collars...
The skirt was simple. Just a pleated skirt with ruffles added to the bottom, slap a waistband on and you're done. The shirt wasn't too difficult. I had to alter a button-down shirt pattern, but I used the same basic shape.
Oh but the collars. They took some finagling. I drafted so many patterns to get the collars to look anywhere near right. And they're still not quite satisfactory, although they worked for at least one wear.
ALL OF THE TRIM on this costume! Again, very deceptive on how much trim I had to use. I made one bit of a mistake. I used the wrong color on the wristbands. OOPS! I realized this mistake just a little too late.
The "tights" are actually leggings! I made a stencil of the diamonds, had my sister, who I adore so much for doing this, paint them on while I was wearing them, and then wore black socks with black shoes. It was the quickest, easiest solution as I was on a bit of a time crunch. But I think it worked well.
Other than the minor mistakes, some trim issues, and collar difficulties, this costume ran rather smoothly. There's plenty I would have done differently in a second round, but I'm overall pretty satisfied.
- Personal Thoughts:
- I adore Homura, even when she was super cold and portrayed mostly as an antagonist in the beginning. I decided on doing her costume immediately after watching the episode on her back story. Out of the rest of the girls, she had the most mystery to her, and it made her character most appealing to me.
- Styling Notes
- All I did was shorten the bangs and style them to look like Homura's.
- Wig Review
- The fibers are nice, and they don't tangle too easily. It's not the highest quality wig you can get, but it looks quite lovely.
