Construction Details:

Beauty and the Beast is my favorite Disney film. I decided to make Belle's ballgown to join a Disney Princess cosplay group formed by Shattered Song.

I used a gold yellow bridal satin for the bodice and underskirt, and added a gathered lighter yellow sparkly organza top layer to the skirt. The bodice is fully lined and boned, and I used a simple fluffy petticoat underneath the skirt instead of a hoop skirt to add some "swishiness" to the dress. I added large yellow pearlescent beads to each apex of the yellow sash at the bottom of the skirt and to the front of the bodice. The gloves are a yellow cotton spandex which were dyed to better match the dress.

Wearing this costume with a group of lovely girls was so much fun! I hope to make a few changes to this dress, and possibly add more details to it for maximum princess sparkle.

Styling Notes

The wig I used is a Jeannie in Mahogany from Arda Wigs. I pulled the mini ponytail out of the wig and fixed it in a 1/2 ponytail, then trimmed the long ponytail extension that comes on a claw clip, attached it to the new, smaller ponytail on the wig and added some extra hair on top to make the big bun. I gently curled the ends of the hair with thick foam rollers so it would be a little more wavy.
