Construction Details:

Overall, the costume wasn't terribly difficult to make. The red top was originally supposed to be part of another costume that never got finished. If I remember correctly, I think I made it out of a stretch poplin. The green sash/belt/obi was made out of some scrap green fabric with some interfacing in the middle of it. It snaps together at the back. I don't remember what kind of fabric the hakama pants were made out of, but I should have picked something a little less stiff, and I should have made the pleats a bit deeper as they tend to sit weirdly after I sit down.

The ears were made out of wire and fleece that were then sewn onto a headband. I already owned the boots and the white tie, and the Hanafuda cards were bought at the 100yen store while I was in Japan this past summer.
