About this Costume
- Construction Details:
I drafted everything for this costume myself, and I'm really glad it came out looking so nice!! The flowers are rosettes from Joann. I picked them because they're kinda circley and fake-looking, but that's also how they're drawn in the original art, so I figured it was okay. The cape is a circle cape made from a red suiting. I didn't end up putting the fleur de lis on it because I couldn't find a good applique and for some reason the vectors I found weren't printing properly. I found a really lovely chain resembling wrought-iron hearts, like fences in Paris, and I used that to hold the cape together in front. The shirt is made of an off-white and purple knit. The skirt is a circle skirt with about 5.5 yards of lace sewn to the edges, which took a few hours of dyeing from white to a dark enough purple.
- Personal Thoughts:
- I honestly was expecting to make this just for the sake of doing something cool with my friends, while I was fond of France's design, and then selling it or something, but I...really LOVE this outfit and the overall look. I love my sleeves, I love the way the wig looks on me, I love having flowers in my hair, and I am going to keep it because I feel beautiful in it, and I want to wear this a hundred times more with friends all over again.
Everyone in our group was BEAUTIFUL, and I don't think anything can beat the combination of pretty ladies and Hetalia. Gosh, those costumes just translate SO WELL to real life and are really attractive when they're not on pudgy (but really cute) chibis?!
- Styling Notes
- I added a curly ponytail clip also from Arda to an existing wig (for Russia and Kanji) and it looked great!
