About this Costume
- Construction Details:
- I am in love/obsessed with Utena. The concept, visuals, soundtrack, and characters are my favorite of any anime I've seen. I chose to make Juri's student council uniform because she's awesome and wears a lot of orange. I made this costume by heavily altering commercial patterns and tailoring them to my body type. I learned a lot about sewing in making her pants and top. My husbando/bff Josh made the epaulettes for me out of balsa wood, paperclay, and posterboard so that they were light enough to attach to my shoulders with velcro. The rose holder pin was made out of sculpy, which never really hardened properly. I used an enamel paint on it, which also never cured right, so the day I wore Juri at Anizona '06, I got gold paint all over my pants and top. :C RUINED.
- Personal Thoughts:
- I'm really pleased with how this costume turned out, for my second costume. My only regret is that I didn't branch out and use a wig. Juri's hair is awesome, and I'm not sure that real hair can really replicate it.
