Cosplayer Ammie > Costume of Suigintou from Rozen Maiden
About this Costume
- Construction Details:
- This was the most difficult costume I made before I attempted the Battlesuit. I went really crazy with detail and wanted this to look a very certain way. The dress is made of Velveteen which was pretty easy and nice to work with. The underdress is cotton. Everything on this costume is lined completely and I stay nice and warm while wearing it ^_^
I found the loop trim at a fabric wearhouse totally by accident and was thrilled I found the same trim that her dress is illustrated as. The crosses are appliqued on using a satin stitch on my sewing machine.
the little purple roses I found at a dollar store and hand sewed them on. The boots are boot covers made of a velour that I had in the same colour as the dress..once again..totally lucky on my part. The volume of the dress is created by using a hoopskirt, I made the hoop skirt using a hula hoop at the base, then some felxible PVC piping in the upper hoop area...hula hoops are quite awesome for making hoopskirts..just sayin :P
The wings are made of bristol board, hot glue, wire and various black feathers. there are 2 wire rods that slide down the back of the dress to keep the wings in place.
The eye contacts I had issues with I have been looking for pink eye contacts EVERYWHERE! I had bought a pair initially but they got damaged and I had to toss them. The second pair I got didn't show up pink in my eyes at all..so I went with red ones for now. I will keep looking for the right cranberry shade cause I do intend on wearing this costume again.
I made this costume due to the fact I loved the design and I really like the character from the series, she is seen as somewhat of a villian, but in reality she was negelcted and not understood. I also found out my fellow cosplay partner in crime, Straywind, had Shinku on her to do list and this only further made me want to make this costume. We have the right heights again and have no problems representing our characters..only thing is the 2 characters don't like one and other too much D: so that was a bit of a challenge for us to pull off in pics >
- Personal Thoughts:
- I look forward to wearing this one again, Straywind and I got a lot of attention in these costumes due to the elegance and detail in them. We hope to get recruit all the dolls for a group soon, if anyone is interested just PM us and we will coordinate something :)
- Styling Notes
- All I did was cut the bangs and steam them while in a curler to create volume. I also trimmed the sides to frame my face in a simliar way her hair does.
