About this Costume
- Construction Details:
- I finally watched Jem and the Holograms in its entirety this summer and I absolutely adored it. Not only is the show great, the costumes are so ridiculously tacky I couldn't help but love them. Plus I just love 80's cartoons... So much love!
I started with a sparkly pink hologram (no pun intended) spandex for the dress. It was a simple enough pattern, I altered it from a kimono-esque pattern and then self-patterned the sleeves.
The belt is made from a silver crackle PVC I found at JoAnn. I patterned it out and made the piping from scratch. The purple designs are appliqued and satin stitched to the front of the belt and then I attached it all together and lined it and added the fringe, which I bought on eBay.
The wig is the Arda Claudia wig in their "Light Pink" color. I separated the wig into sections and combed out the curls and teased them up like crazy. I trimmed a bit of the length and shaped it up a bit once I saw how much it teased up, and I trimmed and fluffed up the bangs. I would definitely recommend the Claudia for FABULOUS 80's hair, anytime!
The shoes and bracelets were lucky finds on eBay, in Claire's, and the World Market.
