Cosplayer Nat > Costume of Taikoubou from Houshin Engi
About this Costume
- Construction Details:
- This costume should've been easy to make, except PHYSICS. i.e. the hat was kind of a nightmare and it was only through extreme finagling (that causes my head to hurt very badly after wearing this costume for over 5 hours) that I was able to make the ears sort of stand upright. The gloves were a pain in the ass too, since I completely destroyed a pair trying to machine sew them and ended up having to handsew from scratch. The overcoat has a hard time staying closed since I have 2 flimsy tiny snaps holding the "plates" together, but I'm proud of the 30% of the time it does hold together.
For the record I do really fucking love those gloves.
- Personal Thoughts:
- I've fantasized about cosplaying Taikoubou for years, and I finally took the step to make the costume. It was an arduous, soul-baring experience no less of which would befit my favorite manga character of all time. After many a night of wanting to throw myself off a cliff in frustration (how do I make x do this/that/other gravity defying thing??) the costume finally came together, quite nicely even, and I finally cosplayed Taikoubou, and everything was beautiful and nothing hurt (too much).
