About this Costume
- Construction Details:
- The main part of the costume that I had to make was the jacket and the bag. Everything else was mostly store-bought and altered- the hoodie had thumb holes sewn in, the rectangle belt had metal added to it, I brushed the studded belt gold so it would match the reference. Nice and easy! I don't have too much to say about the jacket except for the fact that finding material that I was happy with was very difficult. The reference art doesn't particularly shout DENIM but at the same time... it does? I eventually found a soft lightweight fabric that mimicked the look of denim without having the heavy weight and texture of it, and I thought that would be a good medium. The jacket loops involved a lot of hand-stitching in the car on the way to the convention! The bag. Now that's a whole different story. I broke my sewing machines trying to make it!! Apparently these new fangled cheap sewing machines don't agree very well with four layers of upholstery pleather. Eventually I got out my grandma's old sewing machine (which weighs a brick and sews straight lines... and ONLY straight lines, like a dream) and I was able to finish it. I'm so pleased with it!
