Cosplayer Dany > Costume of Oscar Francoise de Jarjayes from Rose of Versailles
About this Costume
- Construction Details:
- Coat: Burda Napoleon pattern, significantly altered. Wool Melton with machine embroidery and hand-applied trims.
Epaulettes: I have two sets..the gold set is an epaulette I found online decorated with embroidery used on the coat. I also have a silver version that I built from the ground up, using parts from a mismade pair that I scavenged for the very-hard-to-find metal coil fringe.
Pants: Mix between two patterns: I wanted the drop front without the pumpkin butt.
Cording: Hand-made using a tutorial I found online for making bugle cords because it had the "braided" effect I wanted.
Brooch/Medals: Mostly made from cast pieces of collected parts or in the case of the brooch, sculpted parts.
- Personal Thoughts:
- This took, on and off, since 2010 to complete, started at the same time that I started D'Eon, but put on hold while D'Eon was completed for WCS 2011. I started working on her again near the end of last year.
I tried to make her historically feasible, rather than historically accurate, focusing on things to make her feel real but not demanding true-on accuracy so that she would be recognizable, especially since I'm wearing a pretty 80's style wig!
I hope to make more of Oscar's clothes in the future; in the process of making this costume, I kind of made parts for other variations, so I want everything to get used!
- Wig Review
- It has the dreaded "short hairs" at the roots in the top, but I did not find this distracting. If anything, it seemed to help for Oscar's particular style.
