Cosplayer Lady Ava > Costume of Hatsune Miku from Vocaloid 2
About this Costume
- Construction Details:
- This was an original design of mine that I thought of about a month and a half before the con. I wanted to do something for Miku that had a small steampunk element (but wasn't over the top) and something in red.
The corset is made like a traditional corset, though every black panel is actually woven pleather. I took each panel, cut strips of the pleather and then woven them into the pattern designer. Stitched, then trimmed and tada. The trim is gold spandex and its lined in little piano keys.
The skirts each had a tulle underskirt to make them poof out and be fluffy. Then, like the corset, the gold is the spandex and then the black is casa. All the bias tape was made by me.
Wings are foamcore. Bolts are made using Hot Glue. Gears in the wig are foamies.
- Personal Thoughts:
- While I adore Miku's regular designs, at the end of the day, most of them are indeed fanart. So, I decided to take a page from the Japanese book and design my own outfit for Miku. This was also a portfolio piece for a job interview, so it really was fun to try different techniques for this outfit that I normally wouldn't try.
Either way, the design is copyrighted to me. Of course Miku belongs to everyone else BUT me. And Yup.
