Cosplayer Shii Arisugawa > Costume of Amber from Darker than BLACK
About this Costume
- Construction Details:
I started by making the wrist cuff accessories, the "fuzzy neck brace" is from my now retired Shion Arita costume. The original purse was made from broad cloth that was dyed darker, I later went back and added lining which is something I should have done in the first place. ^^; My new purse is made from a home decor fabric (Waverly Modern Essentials in Fruit Punch) which has a nice color and weight to it, with most of the pieces interfaced for stability. I took apart my first purse for patterning purposes, making the new pattern slightly bigger this time, as well as adding more pockets for storage. I used more metal hardware such as the rectangle rings, eyelets, magnetic closures, etc. and added black topstitching for interest. The original boots were painted off white using acrylic paint and fabric medium, with the straps glued on, and the metal hardware was purchsed from etsy. I wanted to remake the boots as well, so I found an old pair I had in my cosplay closet, and cut 4" off the tops to make them mid-knee length, then I patterned base boot covers using muslin. The finished boot covers are made out of a micro suede fabric backed with muslin (as my base boots are olive green), with black spandex used for the soles. I used the same metal hardware for the fasteners on the boot straps.
- Personal Thoughts:
- I got around to watching the series early 2011 and really wanted to cosplay from it, so I picked Amber as her personality and character design was the most appealing to me (more unitards? surprise!). I searched around for the wig first, and once I found the perfect one that kinda sealed the deal for me! I originally debued this at Anime Expo 2011, but didn't get any good photos until later in the year during Pacific Media Expo 2011. I was pleasantly surprised that almost everyone knew who I was cosplaying as, likewise they were also pleasantly surprised to see someone cosplaying as Amber! The only thing missing in my life is getting photos with other Darker than Black cosplayers, so if anyone's interested hit me up~
- Styling Notes
- The bangs were trimmed up using thinning shears, I'm very happy with how they turned out since I didn't need to use any styling products at all afterwards!
- Wig Review
- AHH THIS WIG IS BEAUTIFUL! The quality of the fibers, length, and color is just all around lovely! What I love the most is for such a long wig (it's almost butt length on me), it hardly tangles at all.
