About this Costume
Construction Details:
The pattern was drafted by me using the Folkwear kimono pattern as a reference. It is made from wool crepe, underlined with organza, and has a silk charmeause lining. The butterflies were individually hand-painted by my friend (who is cosplaying as Maru in our group) and attached using heat-n-bond and a zig-zag stitch. All hail the ruffling foot. It made my life so much easier.

Personal Thoughts:
This is not a costume I should have tried tackling in two weeks but I did anyway and am very please with results. I had a great time at Fanime and our group got a judge's award for craftsmanship at the masquerade! Please check out our performance here: http://youtu.be/WplXhoM_yZA

Styling Notes
To make the massive 4" odangos I followed Katie Bair's tutorial in her World of Wigcraft book. It worked like a charm. Not only did the odangos NOT looks like they had been run over by a moose but I am also no longer afraid of wigs. The hair ornaments were spray-painted craft foam. Everything was attached using a combination of sewing and gluing.
