About this Costume
- Construction Details:
- I mostly wanted to try my hand at making a Soul Gem in its egg form, and I love Kyouko, so I thought I might as well go ahead and make her normal outfit, too!
This was really simple to make, aside from the Soul Gem itself; all of the pieces are modified from clothes I went out and bought. I put the most work into altering the hoodie, which began its life as an XL hoodie with giant, ridiculous sequinned flower embroidery all over the front. After getting rid of that, I took it in a lot and used the extra fabric to make the front pockets, then added the horizontal lines to the hem and cuffs. Lastly, I ripped the old zipper out and installed a two-way one. This costume is just as comfortable as it looks, haha.
My Soul Gem lights up; it has a LED light in the base that can be turned on and off. I did all of my sculpting with Paperclay, and the whole thing is really sturdy since I used a lot of Mod Podge. I seriously recommend doing that if you plan to sculpt around an egg to make a Soul Gem- putting on a layer of Mod Podge after every layer of Paperclay reinforces the whole structure and strengthens it, so it can take a few whacks in case you drop it at a con. If you have any questions about the Soul Gem, PM me and I'd be glad to help.
