Cosplayer Sparkle Pipsi > Costume of Anna Rochefort from Le Chevalier d'Eon
About this Costume
- Construction Details:
- Soooo this costumes was a bit more rushed than it should have been... in fact, most of the construction process just feels like a blur since it was such a whirlwind project ^^;;. Pretty much all the fabric was bought at Joann since I didn't have time to run to the fashion district ~ ah well, I love the casa collection no matter what anyone else says xD;;
The skirt was the easiest part; I made paniers so the skirt would have the super wide Marie Antoinette sort of look, and wore a petticoat over that as well so there would be extra POOF. I used a basic pattern as a base for the skirt, added length on the sides to compensate for the paniers, and added pleats over the hips for volume. The skirt was hemmed by hand as well ~
The bodice is what gave me hell T__T. I ended up mostly patterning it from scratch cuz I couldn't get anything else to work. I researched countless historical costuming sites to figure out what the heck was up with that wide pleated collar, but couldn't find anything that even remotely resembled it... finally my friend Teca pointed out that it was a "bertha" style collar... which was actually in vogue during the Victorian era, about 100 years after Chevalier took place... no wonder I couldn't find anything ;___;. Once I saw some historical examples of the collar I was able to toss something together pretty quickly... still not 100% happy with it, but it's good enough xD!!
- Personal Thoughts:
- This costume was made for Fanime 2011 to be a part of Teca's Chevalier vs. Rose of Versailles skit :D! It was an honor to be able to share the stage with so many cosplayers that I admire ~ such a fantastic group of girls!!
