About this Costume
- Construction Details:
- Kimono: I used red prom dress fabric (can't remember what the fabric is called), but I used the "wrong" side of it because I didn't like the shinyness. I liked how the fabric moved and felt so that's why I chose it. I used a kimono pattern and altered the length and the sleeve shape. The sleeves are lined with more prom dress fabric, using the "wrong" side again and same with the black details.
Obi: Made out of dark brown and tan tafetta. I basically cut a really long rectangle and then two more smaller ones for the bow in the back. Once again, I used the "wrong" side of the fabric.
Clips: These were made out of Sculpey and then painted with acrylic paint. I hotglued them to alligator clips.
Sandals: I just used sandals I had laying around but I made cover-like things for the thong part so they would match the lining of my sleeves.
Fan: I made this out of poster board and craft foam. I painted it with acrylics.
- Personal Thoughts:
- This is definitely my favorite costume to wear because it's incredibly comfortable compared to other costumes I've worn. It's also one of the very very few costumes I actually feel attractive in.
- Styling Notes
- All I did was trim the bangs and thin them out a bit. I had to style the rest of it on my head every time I wore it.
