Cosplayer Envel > Costume of Lina Inverse from Slayers
About this Costume
- Construction Details:
- I've wanted to cosplay Lina ever since I WAS her age. I promised myself I wouldn't want a costume for ten years or more without at least trying to make it, AND BY GOD EVEN IF I ONLY MADE IT BY A FEW MONTHS, I MADE IT! And I'm so happy I did, I'm very proud and happy with how she came out. :)
I've always loved the version of Lina when she's wearing the blue (sometimes white) corset looking thing the best. The first time I ever saw her was on the VHS slipcover of the first movie that was released in America, so that's probably why. So, that's the version I decided to do!
The wig started as a Linda XXL in Fire Red, which I purchased from GodSaveTheQueenFashions. I cut and styled the bangs, which was pretty simple. The headband I made out of a strip of black pleather, into which I hand-embroidered the designs with ice blue embroidery floss. I lined the headband in the same red fabric from the cape.
The shoulder plates are made from foamies, with wire around the edges, covered in suede. The rounded ball looking parts were a large Christmas ornament I used a Dremel to cut apart and carve, then also covered in suede. They are attached to a frame on the inside so that they can fit onto my shoulders. The front silver closure is made from leather pieces I cut/painted/attached, and they snap into the fronts of the shoulder plates.
The little yellow top I made and patterned from scratch with an ivory interlock knit. The gem on the yellow top and all of the gems on the entire rest of the outfit I resin cast with epoxy resin. The gold borders on the large gems were cut, heat formed, sanded, and painted sintra.
The corset is an overbust ice blue corset made with suede and laces up the back. It is fully steel boned for extra support and awesomesauce. :P
The belts were belt blanks I bought from Tandy and then hand painted and put the snaps/closures onto with the help of GSTQ.
The black side of the cape is a lightweight suiting from JoAnn and is fully lined with a dark red polyester shantung. It is completely topstitched around the edges. The gloves were bought, and I shortened them and put the fur on them by hand.
The butt-cape thing was patterned from scratch and made from a lightweight yellow linen. The pants I patterned from scratch and made with dark red moleskin fabric. It has a fully functional fly in the front, which is covered by those weird random panel things she has.
The boots were originally too tall, so I cut them apart, shortened them, then re-attached the cuffs at the top.
I've wanted to make this for so long, it made me super happy that even though Slayers is an older series, a lot of people recognized her and complimented it! ^_^
- Styling Notes
- All I did was cut and curl the bangs.
