About this Costume
Construction Details:
The whole dress is made of duchess satin that I had laying around from back when I wanted to make Peach. The bodice is my own pattern, fully boned and lined and the sleeves attach to the underside only of the bodice. The underskirt is made of cotton sateen and finished with a rolled hem. The overskirt is also duchess satin and ruched in the center for the gathered look of Ariel's gown. The hair pieces are real pearls attached to a hair comb. The wig was styled by me!
Personal Thoughts:
So fun fact about me: I'm incoherently afraid of eels. Not just scared, TERRIFIED. I can't look at them, I won't eat them, I get chills just thinking about them? Why? The Little Mermaid. The Little Mermaid was my favorite movie as a child and while I loved Ariel, the eels scared me even more than Ursula. Now, I still love Ariel and identify with her a great deal in terms of family relationships. Sooooo I FINALLY got off my butt and made this!
