About this Costume
Construction Details:
Worn to Anime Los Angeles 2011. Nina isn't a very well known character. So far she's only appeared once in the manga, and she doesn't have any official colors, so I chose something that would convey her bold nature while at the same time making it feel like it was the winter season (since its winter in the chapter she appears in). In the end, I chose grey and red. I haven't had a lot of experience sewing and/or constructing, so Nina was a big challenge for me. I was planning on going to AX 2010 for the gathering in this, but I ended up running out of time. Easiest part of the costume was the blouse and the dress. If anything, I'm somewhat better at making blouses than anything else. Yes, I did make the dress, made it in about one night before ALA, completely removable, and I took it off for the latter half of my photoshoot. The hardest part of the outfit was the bootcovers. I've never made bootcovers like Nina's before, so I had to struggle with the pleather to make it work. Which was even worse for me, because my machine doesn't sew through pleather . I made the garters using black elastic and some gold suspender clips. Earrings were a lucky find, and the glasses are my own glasses. For the record, I'm wearing blue contacts, but it's not obvious because my eyes are so dark. Wig was bought from C.C. Kids, and was already wavy when I received it. All I did was tie it into a ponytail on the side. Photos are by Daniel Wright and Abbott Wang.
