About this Costume
Construction Details:
My first female cosplay, finally! The dress was very simple. I picked the wool fabric for its color, which was perfect; Medli's dress is a weird blueish-gray, and the fabric captured it perfectly. I modified a pattern, getting rid of all the seams save for the sides. There is homemade bias tape around the hem, sleeves, and neckline. All the seams are finished. The tabard is made out cotton. The symbols on the front are appliqued on with fusible web, with satin stitching around the larger one. I lined the tabard so that the stitching couldn't be seen through the back. Once again, there's homemade bias tape around the edges. The collar is also sewn shut; it can't be seen, but it's the thought that counts! The scarf is a stretch knit fabric, picked for its draping quality. The edges aren't finished since the fabric doesn't fray, and it'd look better without visible seams. The pendant is cast in resin. The logo inside is made from Sculpey and is embedded inside of the pedant. It attaches to the scarf with safety pins that are glued onto the back of it. The wig is crazy long - it's a Godiva. My first experience with a long wig... It's just awful! I made her hair band from Wonderflex. The headband is clay and glass beads. I also finally got fitted for contacts, so I have red ones for her. The socks were bought, but I painted the lines on them. The beak was the hardest part. I did a face cast with the help of my boyfriend. After that, I made a positive from Ultracal. I sculpted a clay beak onto that, and made yet another mold of the beak. Finally, the latex is poured into the beak mold, and out came my beak! It's painted with airbrush paint, and fits my face very well. It attaches on with spirit gum. I didn't make the ears, though. They're from Aradani! The harp is a wood base with paperclay details (nose, swirls at bottom, the pegs, bar, and triangles). The strings are guitar strings. Unfortunately one of them has a kink in it, and there seems to be nothing I can do about it. The body was spray painted with Krylon Metallic gold paint. Medli's harp is REALLY shiny, so I tried to get a nice shiny paint. The details on the face and the horns are painted in acrylic. The pegs, bar, triangles, and strings are epoxied on. It was a simple cosplay to do, and I'm happy with it!
