About this Costume
- Construction Details:
- Spandex, spandex, polyfill, spandex. That is this entire costume. I made a pair of leggings and a leotard to slip over it, and appliqued all of the gold pieces (except for the boob cups, which I appliqued separately and then hand-sewed on). The AMAZING WONDERFUL BEE BUTT was made by sewing 4 oval-shaped pieces together for the polyfill casing, then making a separate stretch cover out of spandex strips, and attaching the whole thing to a belt that slips beneath my costume and wraps around my waist. The fur collar, wristlets, and BEE'S KNEES are also stuffed with polyfil, and the eyes/antennae are made from model magic and copper wire. I'm also wearing KiraKira lenses with this costume, because scleras are too expensive and frightening and hell no. Extra special thanks to Hailo for picking up the boob cups, Umister for telling me not to be afraid of wig hair, and Twilitesea for helping me out with her fairy wing making skillz!
- Personal Thoughts:
- THE BEE. I love this costume. LOVE this costume. I can't believe it came out as nicely as it did in the handful of days I had between Comic Con and Otakon to make it! I was thrilled to be a group again with my amazing Pandachimp crew (I've been going to Otakon with them every year since 2003), and even more thrilled to be a part of DJMoose's first big skit ever! I recently sold this costume to a lovely lady in Texas who I hope will get many years of use out of it. :3
Wig Details
- Wig Brand
- Kikko Import Collection
- Wig Name
- Medium length w/ bangs
- Original Color:
- Lavender
- Styling Time
- ALL OF THE HOURS
- Styling Notes
- My wig is literally a hair helmet. The back is completely wefted, and I glued two styrofoam eggs to the scalp with copper wire horns that I wrapped the hair around. The entire thing is shellacked with tacky glue and Aquanet and is ROCK HARD. I can throw this thing at a wall and it wouldn't budge.
- Wig Review
- I am so proud of this wig. It is a trophy of overcoming my fear of hair styling.
