About this Costume
- Construction Details:
- I wanted to make Saber’s dress minus the armor and do something a little different than my older version. Since the dress didn’t have the benefit of shiny armor, I decided to pick different fabrics and embellish it a little bit. The dress is made of an upholstery fabric that is completely interfaced. It was a strange find, but I loved the color and the sheen so much that I went for it even though my original plan had been to use a velvet. It ended up being a better choice in the end because of the way velvet photographs (which isn’t always pleasant.) The white under-dress is made of bridal satin, and all of the scallops are edged with a satin stitch and machine embroidered. The 60 scallops took 10-12 hours to complete. Though it’s a detail that isn’t the first thing a person might notice, I’m happy I did it since I wanted to add something extra to the overall simple costume design. In total the dress took a week and a half of work to complete. I drafted the dress partially off of my earlier pattern, but with a series of changes and minor improvements. The spats are made of a microfiber faux-suede with 20 buttons I made to match. The front flap is a black vinyl. All of the trim on the dress is the backside of a gold stretch vinyl.
