Construction Details:

As far as the construction of the fuku, making something as simple looking as it is turned out to be a lot more complicated than I thought. I have never bled so much from burning myself, needle or scissor wounds etc before for a costume. It's almost like it's a right of passage in the cosplay world, LOL.

The wig is a purple & black mixture wig I bought off Vartan, because it's perfect for anime or manga Mars. The tiara was borrowed from Starlighthoney who saved my butt when the I lost mine. The earrings are from Southern Moon creations since I didn't have time to make my own.

The fuku is white spandex with a seam running across it for the "boob armor" as we ended up calling it. The sleeves, hip roll & gloves are cording, stuffed into red or white spandex "sleeves" & sewn together (that was a royal pain). The transparent "super" sleeves are clear frosted vinyl.

We decided to go with a circle skirt pattern for the mini skirts, since they lay the best for the manga design, instead of box pleats like from the anime. The collar is matte casa satin & white ribbon. The bows are matte casa satin with interfacing. The choker is also matte casa satin.

All of our heart broochs & the choker stars were made by Minakokitty out of resin. She was also awesome & made the epaulets for the generals (Jedite, Nephrite & Kunzite).

I made my scroll by tracing the kanji characters in Illustrator using the pen & calligraphy brush tool.

EDIT: In 2013 I remade parts of this for another group with friends. Remade the collar, front & back bows & skirt. All out of casa satin.

Personal Thoughts:

When I was 12 & first watched Sailor Moon I instantly fell in love with Mars as a character. She was firey, quick witted & confident (a big change from the Disney Princesses I was used to as a child). Finally getting to make her costume & wear her with such a giant & awesome group, after 13 years of loving the Sailor Moon series(Super S was my favorite series, so when we decided for the senshi to wear their super fuku I was so happy) was such a nostalgic experience for me. I couldn't have been happier at Katsucon :D

Mars was made as part of our large & epic Sailormoon group for Katsucon. The group was the result of months of planning & sewing & crafting. I am SO happy to see how well it turned out. My inner 12 year old is psyched. Thank you SO much to everyone who participated!
