About this Costume
- Construction Details:
- I originally made the white kimono for the manga version of Tomoe's garb, and purposely lined it with itself because I anticipated wearing it in cold weather.
When the opportunity came along to wear it to Fanime 2010, I decided to make the OVA version, so that I could get away with just wearing the one kimono without the deep purple juban.
The kimono and obiage are made of cotton sateen, the obi is made out of poplin, and the shawl is made out of a purple satin, though it regrettably has a bluish appearance in pictures. I also wore white tabi socks and black geta, which are not pictured. - Personal Thoughts:
Rurouni Kenshin is my favorite manga, but I like the OVAs, too. Out of the whole story, the "Jinchu" arc touched me the most, especially Tomoe's fatal gesture of love for Kenshin.
I recently put the finishing touches on Tomoe's manga attire, and it will wait patiently in my closet until I muster enough courage to go out into the snow for pictures (brr!).
If I were to fulfill a dream of many years, it would be to do a shoot in the snow with a Battousai, complete with blood and angst. Perhaps it will happen someday. ^^x
