Cosplayer Melfina > Costume of Umi Ryuuzaki from Magic Knights Rayearth
About this Costume
- Construction Details:
AHHHHH armor. I didn't really know what I was doing, but I looked up a tutorial that used Wonderflex and Friendly Plastic, and went from there! I used Wonderflex for the larger pieces, like the shoulder pauldron and the boob-cup. Everything else is mostly craft foam or a thin plastic cutting board that I cut up.
I used velveteen for the waist cincher (backed and lined with a stiff fabric), a crinkly gradient-dyed satin for the skirt, and lots of chiffon and swimsuit lining for the drapey parts.
This was also my first time casting my own gems! Lots of learning from this costume.
- Personal Thoughts:
- I love Umi's elegance and attitude, and I was really drawn to this artbook illustration.
- Styling Notes
- I ended up having to dye this wig with blue sharpie dye, since the original color had more lavender to it than I expected. Also cut bangs.
