About this Costume

2000 Commentary: For AX, we wanted a whole series of somewhat original costumes. I've always like the cool crisp look of a uniform...plus me and my friend liked the two characters. So the third costume for Anime Expo was our You're Under Arrest cosplay. It was a lot of fun, this costume was a little sharper...as well as fun to room around in. The shoes however...can take their toll if you walk around in them too long. ^^;; Everyone got a kick out of this because we were sooo into character. I was able to mimick directing traffic up near the movie rooms. *lol* Originally, I had wanted to get a real police uniform, but because of expenses, I improvised. The shirt and skirt I'm wearing are actual uniforms. I basically bought the whole outfit. The skirt came unhemmed, so I hemmed up both my skirt and my friend's. It was interesting to note that the skirts fell at the same level when we stood next to each other. I added in military creases into the shirts, including a yolk that ran from shoulder to shoulder for a complete authentic look. I'm used to running around in uniform because of my NJROTC experience, so this cosplay was really fun and comfy. I think during AX, I wore really comfy costumes. Again, we wanted to go for exactness...so the accessories we were using were (for the most part) real. The police badges that we had on our belts were actual police badges. Also the shoulder cord is a real military parade aguillette. At the end of the cord, tucked into a pocket is a real traffic whistle. It was quite interesting, the whistles are loud! The handcuffs look realistic, but they were just toy ones...we did contemplate getting real ones... I was going to get a real parade gun, that could cock and load, but couldn't shoot, but I didn't want to get into security problems. So we used toy waterguns instead. The gloves were also ordered from a military accessory store. All in all, I really liked this cosplay.
