About this Costume
Construction Details:
This is the most amount of work I've put into a costume in a while. The vest and pants are red silk dupioni. I drafted a vest pattern into the crazy design with the rings on the sides that open and close. It is lined with black china silk. I used a women's pants pattern for the pants. They have pleats and darts so there is a really fitted look around the butt, lol, and the cuffs are black dupioni. The blouse was based off a woman's blouse pattern and is made of a silk/rayon blue duchess satin. I box pleated the cuffs and neckpiece. I hand-drafted the neck bow, the headpiece bow, and the large black bow on the back. They are all made of dupioni. The flounce is like 8 yards of cotton. I made irregular shaped swirls and cut them out, then serged the inside edges and sewed together five pieces to make one bunch. This flounce is made of 5 bunches. I might add more to make it more full later. The outside edges are not finished in any way. I'll eventually fray-check them, but I refuse to serge them or do a rolled hem because they don't hang as beautifully. Even a long zig-zag stitch changed them more than I wanted. The cage is made out of aluminum steel. All I had to do was measure one piece at a time and drill the holes, then attach the pieces together with a rivet gun. The top band wraps around my waist. I didn't have time to make the front half into a fabric waistband, so I had steel around my waist at Otakon. OUCH! The wig that I found was the perfect shade and Jessie and I cut it. The headpiece is made out of flowers from Michaels. The boots are from Cosworx. I got them the day before I left so they are missing the details but I'll add them soon.

Personal Thoughts:
Most expensive costume I've made so far. Overall it really wasn't THAT difficult, just very time consuming. The vest was a bitch because of the very small pieces on the sides. I love this design. It is so cute and I'm so sick of seeing the same 5 Ciel's at a convention, so I really wanted to do something that no one has done before.
